SBM-NMIMS Mumbai Hosts the 8th Conference of Indian Academy of Management
MUMBAI, India, Jan. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal’s (SVKM’s) Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Deemed-to-be University, Mumbai, is elated to share that the 8th conference of Indian Academy of Management (INDAM) held by the School of Business Management (SBM) from 6th – 8th January 2023 was a resounding success. The conference, cleped INDAM 2023 @ SBM-NMIMS Mumbai, brought together academic leaders and industry experts, among 300 researchers in business management and allied domains. INDAM conferences are well recognised as most prominent knowledge-sharing platforms that offer an array of opportunities for academicians and professionals to collaborate. Participants at INDAM 2023 conference had opportunities to disseminate their research findings, network with interest groups, and engage in interactive workshops and panel discussions. The INDAM 2023 conference’s theme was curated on the contemporary topic of ‘Digital Economy Post COVID-19 Era’, as digital transformations across industries have accelerated during the pandemic. More than 400 research papers from 20 countries, including India, Australia, Canada, China, France, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States, were received for consideration for presentation. Post rigorous review process, a total of 280 research papers were invited for presentation. Additionally, Doctoral Colloquium and Paper Development Workshop were also conducted as pre-conference events on 5th January 2023.
The conference commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Ramesh Bhat, Vice-Chancellor, SVKM’s NMIMS Deemed-to-be University. He expressed, “It was exhilarating to host the 8th INDAM conference at our institution. It was a great opportunity for our faculty, students, and alumni to engage with some of the most respected minds in the management field, and to gain valuable insights that will help shape their careers and contribute to the advancement of the management profession in the digital era.”
The conference was enlightened with keynote speeches by accomplished thought leaders. Prof. Amy Hillman, President of Academy of Management, articulated the use of technology along with subjective factors that can contribute to the growth of researchers. Prof. Arup Varma from Loyola University, Chicago, explained the genesis of INDAM emphasizing the need for commitment to branch out the research domain in diverse dimensions. Prof. Madan Pillutla, the Dean of Indian School of Business Hyderabad, accentuated the applicability of research in Indian context and inclusion of research papers in academic curricula. Mr. Srikanth Subramanian, CEO at Kotak Cherry and a proud alumnus of SBM-NMIMS Mumbai, shared his views on the role of technology in bringing transformation and a way forward to have an inclusive society. Prof. Farok J. Contractor from Rutgers Business School imparted his views of India’s contribution in management research at global stage and articulated the roles of researchers in fulfilling India’s economic growth aspirations. Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director of IIM Bangalore, presented linkages between strategy and innovation, and how technology enables the same. Ms. Nupoor Singh, Senior Editor from Springer Nature, reinforced the paramount importance of academic integrity through her address on ethical standards in research publications. Mr. Manoj Belgaonkar, the Head of Regulations, Standards & Quality Management at Siemens Ltd., shared his insights on driving digital transformation in prospering India.

Research papers were divided into 14 tracks covering varied spectrum of topics, such as, digital economy in the post-COVID era (the conference theme), case studies on conference theme, consumer behaviour and marketing, contemporary topics, economics and finance/accounting, entrepreneurship and small business management, environmental, social, and governance compliance, future of work, human resource management, inclusive workplaces, information systems and decision sciences, international business and strategy, operations and supply chain management. An eclectic mix of academicians from India and abroad constituted the team of track chairs. Day 1 (06th January, 2023)
The session was inaugurated with Saraswati and Ganesha Vandana, auspicious lamp lighting ceremony, and welcome addresses by Prof. Ramesh Bhat and Prof. Sushanta Mishra. Shri Shalin Divatia, Honorary Joint Secretary of SVKM, shared how SVKM has blossomed into an educational colossus across the nation from a humble foundation. The inauguration ceremony observed the launch of conference proceedings comprising of over 60 full-length research papers, and another conference proceeding including abstracts of all research papers presented at INDAM 2023 @ SBM-NMIMS Mumbai. The audience were enlightened with keynote speeches by Prof. Amy Hillman, Prof. Arup Varma, Prof. Madan Pillutla, and Mr. Srikanth Subramanian, followed by an eloquently informative Meet-the-Editors Session. Accomplished editors of renowned journals shared insights on expectations from a submission to a top-quality management journal. Day 2 (07th January, 2023)
The conference organisers welcomed a delegation from the Center for International Business Education and Research, Florida International University, the United States. The second day was charged with powerful speeches by Prof. Farok J. Contractor and Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, followed by an insightful Meet-the-Directors Session moderated by Prof. Prashant Mishra. The session involved a panel discussion on the future of management education with eminent panelists: Prof. Ajit Parulekar (Goa Institute of Management), Prof. Devendra Kodwani (Open University, UK), Prof. Pawan Budhwar (Aston Business School), and Prof. Ram Kumar Kakani (IIM Raipur). Next, a session discussed about two new books that offer valuable insights and guidance to professionals for excelling in today’s fast-paced, digital business environment. The first book titled ‘The Digital Multinational: Navigating the New Normal in Global Business’ is authored by management experts Prof. Satish Nambisan and Prof. Yadong Luo, while Dr. Arvind Agrawal and Prof. TV Rao penned the second book, ‘Leaders in the Making’. Day 2 concluded with the much awaited Award Ceremony and a Gala Dinner at a serene hotel located on the Juhu Beach. Authors of a total of 25 papers from different tracks were awarded, track chairs and session chairs were felicitated, and 25 reviewers were recognised for their valuable service to the conference. The organisers of the conference took pride in presenting the lifetime achievement award to Prof. Jagdish Seth from Emory University. Prof. Seth has immensely contributed to management education, research and practice in India.
Day 3 (08th January, 2023)
The final day of the conference included a panel discussion on Decolonizing Management knowledge in India – Promoting Pluri-versalism through indigenous knowledge of paradigms. The discussion was moderated by Prof. Ramya T. Venkateswaran (IIM Calcutta) and Dr. Ashish Pandey (IIT Bombay), while the panel comprised of accomplished academicians: Prof. B Mahadevan (IIM Bangalore), Prof Abhoy K Ojha (IIM, Bangalore), Prof Rajen K Gupta (IIM Lucknow & MDI Gurugram) and Prof. Dharm P S Bhawuk (University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA). The conference ended with a closing ceremony where Ms. Nupoor Singh and Mr. Manoj Belgaonkar delivered keynote speeches, Prof. Sushanta Mishra delivered the closing speech, and Prof. Prashant Mishra delivered the valedictory speech. On behalf of the organising team, Dr. Sayantan Khanra presented the summary of the conference before delivering a vote of thanks. The closing ceremony ended with the National Anthem. A Bollywood tour at the Mumbai Film City was organized for participants who experienced movie set-ups, recorded songs at music studios, and relished their moments at acting and dance workshops.
